We had such a day yesterday. We woke up in 40 degree weather in our camper. We were happy and excited to spend our last day together with family from California.
We parted ways near Norris Junction and started headed North. And our plan was to see the Northeast part of park. Cord wanted to show me how beautiful the drive would be. And he was right. And the snow started to fall covering all surrounding mountains, the trees, meadows. It’s breathtaking. We would never imagine we would see our first snow of the year would be in Labor Day!
But the snow was getting bigger and falling fast. We were getting nervous as we see the snow accumulated on the highway road and we found ourselves kept going up the mountain with the snow blizzard going on and the day was getting darker. The snow was already probably about 3 inches on the highway road. And we saw the sign that says, “Road Construction for the next 2 miles” and “One Way Road”! And the look on Cord’s face. As we approaching the “One Way Road” sign, there was a stop light. And the light was red. And there were two vehicles in front of us, one of them was a big bus camper. It was stuck, we saw the driver was out shoveling a snow to try to get it out off the heavy snow. He was signaling us to get through. But our truck with the camper in back was not moving for few seconds. We were very nervous. Alhamdulillah, the truck started moving toward the light passing all those vehicles. And it’s like a miracle, the light turned green in the last second. Because we’re not gonna to stop at all. And the “One Way Road” sign got me nervous if it was still red. And we saw more and more vehicles stop along the way. But the horror didn’t stop there!
We felt relieved that we were starting driving down through the mountain. There’s one point that the truck started to swerved off the road. Cord started to get scared and yelled tons of bad word, as I watched from the rear view mirror our camper almost tilted off the road. The horror! My heart stopped . But all I could think was telling Cord to calm down and just keep steady drive. We did not want to be stuck on the mountain pass in the blizzard with a foot or so snow. But God was protecting us. The truck got back on the road again! And later when we got to town, we found out that the lights cable from the camper that connecting it to the truck was long gone. The Sherrif informed us when we got pulled over. And we told her our horror stories getting out of the blizzard over the Chief Joseph Pass. And she let us go with the warning. She told us that the highway was closed last night due to snow blizzard!!! We survived that. Thanks to Cord getting us from the scary situation and kept us safe. We are so proud of him.
We later read about Chief Joseph Pass is known to be one of the dangerous roads to drive in America.
We decided to stay the night in Cody, WY. There is no way we would continued our journey toward home in night time and in a snowy road. We found a room in town, even though we heard everything was booked in most hotels/motels in town. Lucky us!
We are so thankful that we got through the scary situation safe.
Today. Cord is trying to see if he could find the missing part in auto part stores here. We really is hoping to get on the road today and start heading home. Chloe is already missing her first day of school remote learning. We hate to see her missing another day.
Over all! We had so much fun in our trip to Yellowstone and met up with family. We treasured our first experience with our “Poppy-Pop” camper in all those KOA sites. We are looking forward to our future trips with her. One trip that we won’t forget!!!
Here are some photos along the drive getting out of Yellowstone through the Northeast entrance.
As you can see the clouds are getting darker and you can see the snow was already accumulated on the ground. Obviously I didn’t take the pictures while we were in the scary situation.

The Chief Joseph Hwy.
And here are some photos after we were getting out of the scary situation. The dark clouds were covering where we were up on the mountain pass. You could not even see the mountains behind the clouds!
Clover took over the drive when we get to the town. Cord was done for the night! And we’re so thankful that we found a decent Thai food in Cody.

Should we be nervous?
